    Your Numbers

Enter your cash balance at the start and end of a period.

    How to calculate burn rate

Your net burn rate is how much cash your startup loses each month after revenue. Take your cash balance at the start of a period, subtract the balance at the end, and divide by the number of months:

Net Burn = (Starting Cash − Ending Cash) ÷ Number of Months

Gross burn is your total monthly operating costs before revenue; net burn factors in the cash your revenue brings back in. Investors care most about net burn because it determines your runway — the number of months before you run out of cash. A healthy raise typically targets 18–24 months of runway at your current net burn.
